I remember reading about the different modules (GD or something like that) an image generation plugin needs, but I don't find any such information on the site now. Have you enabled the cache for the plugin? If you have, does the cache folder have adequate permissions? Can you see the images in the preview? And BTW, did you get that image replacement plugin working? I tried it again on another site, and made changes to the plugin that were suggested in that link you had, but it still didn't work - just showed the 'x's where the images were supposed to be. lol, leave it to you, not waiting.
